Biofuels

Biofuels are used globally and the industry is expanding rapidly through Europe, Asia and the Americas. Vopak, especially Vopak Terminal London, has been involved in the biofuels buisness from the start some 6 years ago. As a result we have considerable experience in handling the different stages of biofules products available in the market.

Vopak are committed to supporting the biofuels industry and have the financial strength, experience and ambition to invest in new tankage to help manage the new supply chain requirements.

Biofuels can be split into two main categories; Bioethanol and Biodiesel.

  • Bioethanol is readily made from the starch or sugar in crops such as corn, wheat and sugarcane. This can be blended at any level with gasoline to create a biofuel blend.

  • Biodiesel or methyl ester is produced from different soruces like soft oils (i.e. rape seed and soy bean oil, etc) and tropical oils (palm and coconut oil, etc); this can be blended at different percentages with petroleum diesel to create a biodiesel blend.

Both these products claim environmental benefits. Combined with Vopak’s experience, blending knowhow, HM Customs and revenue relations, it means we can help manage the smooth transition from feedstock to finished road fuel standard products for our customers.
