London Terminal New Build

Picture

In August 2006 Vopak Terminal London started on a program of terminal improvements that would increase storage capacity by 41,800 M3.

Stage one was to demolish ten 300M3 and two 100M3 tanks that had reached the end of their useful life. These tanks were replaced with two 10,000M3 tanks.

To reduce the amount of time the contractors had to spend working at height the tanks were built from the top down. The top three layers were fabricated, and then the roof was put on. The next stage was to jack the top of the tank up and add the next level of the tank, this continued until the tank reached full height.

Stage two involved a complete new bund and exchange. Five 5000M3 tanks are being built in a new bund. The tanks will have full blending functionality based round a new automated exchange. Again the top down building method was used.

The tanks and bunds have been constructed in accordance with the latest environmental and safety recommendations issued as a result of recent incidents in the oil industry.
